Summary

In the third installment in the Heirs of Chicagoland series, the vampires in Elisa Sullivan's world are out for blood。

Elisa Sullivan is the only vampire ever born, and she bears a heavy legacy。 After a sojourn with the North American Central Pack of shifters in the wilderness—where she turned a young woman into a vampire to save her life—Elisa returns to Chicago。

But no good deed goes unpunished。 The ruling body of vampires, the Assembly of American Masters, is furious that Elisa turned someone without their permission, and they’re out for her blood。 When an AAM vampire is found dead, Elisa is the prime suspect。 Someone else is stalking Chicago—and Elisa。 She'll need to keep a clear head, and a sharp blade, to survive all the supernatural strife。

Killing me softlyElisa is the first born vampire between two vampires and wants to meet the world on her terms, not vampire terms。 When she saves a young woman by turning her while with her boyfriend, Connor, on pack business, she inadvertently broke a vampire law。 Now, the governing committee is after her and a stalker is killing for her。 With all the drama how is a girl supposed to get quality time with her love?

A lovely stepI wondered where these two would go, how their relationship would progress, and what if any fall out would happen from the previous adventures they have undertaken。 I can say I love this new arch and I can’t wait to see how it all pans out。

I loved that we got to see more of the other characters like Merit and Ethan as well as Elisa and Connor。 I also liked how we got to see their relationship develop more and I can't believe I now have to wait a year for the next book! As a long time fan of the Chicagoland Vampire series, I was thrilled when I realized that the series was going to continue with the next generation of Cadogan House Vampires and the North American Pack。 I have enjoyed the first couple of books in this series, even though it felt like the first books took a little while to find their footing。Now, it seems as if things have settled down a bit and we have Elisa and Connor seemingly in a good place。 I'm not really sure that I can put my finger on wh As a long time fan of the Chicagoland Vampire series, I was thrilled when I realized that the series was going to continue with the next generation of Cadogan House Vampires and the North American Pack。 I have enjoyed the first couple of books in this series, even though it felt like the first books took a little while to find their footing。Now, it seems as if things have settled down a bit and we have Elisa and Connor seemingly in a good place。 I'm not really sure that I can put my finger on what I felt with this installment other than to say that everything was just a tad too superficial。 I actually enjoyed the book。 I alternated between listening and reading and the narration was fine - no problems there。 The story arc WAS interesting。 A bit shallow - not too much depth to it - but still it was fine。 If I had to try to explain my thoughts, it would be that it almost had the feel of a novella。 Something is missing so far, that something that made the Ethan and Merit relationship story so compelling, but I think that the world IS being set。 The road map is being put in place。 Maybe as a reader, I've just gotten too spoiled and I've forgotten that Merit and Ethan took a while to become who they are today。 Come to think about it - they drove me crazy more often than not as well。 So, I guess things ARE on the right path。。。。。。The development with the "monster" is an interesting storyline and I am looking forward to seeing how and where things are going to go from here。 To be honest though, I've never understood why Elisa doesn't feel like she can talk to her parents about this。 Out of everyone in the entire world, her parents would be the two people that would support, help her research and protect her NO MATTER WHAT。 That she has kept this secret her entire life has always just felt "wrong" to me。 At least she has confided to Connor。The story arc is in place, relationships are being developed and we are being introduced to several characters that look like they are going to play important roles in the future。 I'm in this for the long haul - so I guess I'm going to wait patiently for the next installment to see what is going to happen next。 Honestly, I was proud of how Elisa handled everything with this so called "testing" scenario - especially with Nicole。 You go girl! 。。。more

This was a 2。5 to 3 stars read for me。 I am debating continuing this series because the plot seems flat to me。 A lot of the time, I question Elisa's parents being mention too often in the series。 I prefer Elisa and Conner to do their things。 But it always comes back to her parents。 I don't get why that Merenda gets away doing all she did。 I found the stalker angle of the plot weak。 I am not sure where the storyline is going at this point。 Given how I felt while reading this book, I may not conti This was a 2。5 to 3 stars read for me。 I am debating continuing this series because the plot seems flat to me。 A lot of the time, I question Elisa's parents being mention too often in the series。 I prefer Elisa and Conner to do their things。 But it always comes back to her parents。 I don't get why that Merenda gets away doing all she did。 I found the stalker angle of the plot weak。 I am not sure where the storyline is going at this point。 Given how I felt while reading this book, I may not continue with the series。 。。。more

With this one it seems like Elisa is settling more into being back home in Chicago, hanging out with her friends and her new relationship with Connor。 Sadly just when things are good the new vampire authorities seek her out for what happened in MN。 What Elisa did the last book wasn't malicious at all, so you have to wonder why they are coming after her。 What happens for the rest of the book is a bit bonkers because it seems like the sins (or so called sins) of the parents can cause troubles for With this one it seems like Elisa is settling more into being back home in Chicago, hanging out with her friends and her new relationship with Connor。 Sadly just when things are good the new vampire authorities seek her out for what happened in MN。 What Elisa did the last book wasn't malicious at all, so you have to wonder why they are coming after her。 What happens for the rest of the book is a bit bonkers because it seems like the sins (or so called sins) of the parents can cause troubles for their children。 It was fun to see Elisa figure things out and call these vampires out for their prejudices and then later for calling out someone who is a big pain in Elisa's butt。 Elisa proved she is her parents daughter in more than one way and did so in a great fashion。 。。。more

I’m a fan of a little angst。 And lastly, a lot of plot points felt predictable。 I guess what it boils down to is this: I was expecting to left wanting more and it just barely missed the mark。That said, I am looking forward to the next book。 There were some open plot lines in the end and I’m curious to see where Chloe takes us next。Definitely recommend。 Enjoy! 。。。more

Shadowed Steel by Chloe Neill is the 3rd book in her wonderful Heirs of Chicagoland series。 I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, and happy to say Shadowed Steel was equally as good。 I cannot wait to read more of this great series, as I love Elisa, who had become one of my favorite heroines。 Refresher: Elisa Sullivan, our heroine, is the only vampire child ever born, and her parents (Ethan & Merit) are the powerful leaders of the vampires that lead Chicagoland。 Connor Keen, our he Shadowed Steel by Chloe Neill is the 3rd book in her wonderful Heirs of Chicagoland series。 I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, and happy to say Shadowed Steel was equally as good。 I cannot wait to read more of this great series, as I love Elisa, who had become one of my favorite heroines。 Refresher: Elisa Sullivan, our heroine, is the only vampire child ever born, and her parents (Ethan & Merit) are the powerful leaders of the vampires that lead Chicagoland。 Connor Keen, our hero, is a werewolf and the heir apparent to the North American Central Pack Apex (Alpha); in the last book, Connor and Elisa found their friendship becoming more romantic as they were falling for each other, and the chemistry between them is sizzling。In the last book, Elisa saved the life of a dying young lady, making her a vampire。 Weeks have passed, and now out of nowhere, the AAM (new ruling body of vampires) has come to her threatening her to either bond with a house or she will be arrested。 Elisa refuses, with Connor and friends supporting her, which ignites one of the leaders (Clive) into a major fight to get her and force her to do what they ask。 Elisa, Connor and friends manage to win the battle, with the AAM saying they will be back。 Turns out there is also a stalker, who is willing to hurt others to protect her, including hurting Connor。 Elisa needs to find out who is the stalker, as well as find a way out of the AAM threats。I love Elisa and Connor together, even knowing that she is a vampire and he is a werewolf, and the chemistry between them was amazing。 I also loved the friends (LuLu, Alexei, Theo and of course the devil cat, Eleanor of Aquitaine, etc) who supported Elisa, who were also great characters created by Neill。 What follows is an exciting action filled adventure, especially in the last half of the book as the danger escalates, with threats coming from all over。 It was great to see her parents show up to help her。I thought Elisa was a wonderful heroine; strong, smart, sensible and truly likeable。 She does have a secret that Connor knows about (he saw the change in her when an episode happened when they were children); she feels the monster inside of her, but when she is in danger, her monster is what will help her fight like a berserker, and she struggles to control it。 It was nice to see her accept her other part, and slowly begin to work with it。 I look forward when she will be able to use this more when needed。 Connor was very supportive, telling Elisa to use the power from the monster to help her fight。Chloe Neill gives us another great story, with a wonderful couple, great secondary characters。 Shadowed Steel was an exciting, tense, nonstop action filled addition to this wonderful series that is very well written by Chloe Neill。 I can’t wait for the next book in this series。BarbThe Reading Cafe 。。。more
